NEW DELHI, Dec 6: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the first-ever three-day Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav at Bharat Mandapam in the national capital on Friday. The event, which will be held from December 6 to 8, is aimed at celebrating the vibrant culture of Northeast India. In a post on X, PM Modi shared that the Mahotsav will focus on promoting investment and economic activities in the region, particularly in tourism, textiles, handicrafts, and other sectors.

The cultural festival will showcase the vast cultural richness of the Northeast, bringing together traditional arts, crafts, and cultural practices. It will also highlight the region’s textile sector, tourism opportunities, traditional craftsmanship, and Geographical Indication (GI) tagged products. As the first of its kind, the Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav is envisioned as an annual event that will celebrate the region’s cultural wealth and strategic importance in India’s development.

To promote economic opportunities, the Mahotsav will feature artisan exhibitions, Grameen haats, state-specific pavilions, and technical sessions focused on key development areas in the Northeast. It will also emphasize the importance of infrastructure development in the region, highlighting improvements in connectivity, industrial growth, and sectors like transport, energy, and digital infrastructure.

Additionally, the event will include investor roundtables and buyer-seller meets, offering a unique opportunity to build partnerships and strengthen networks that support the region’s economic growth. Other key highlights of the Mahotsav include a Design Conclave, Fashion Shows showcasing the handloom and handicraft traditions of Northeast India, and vibrant musical performances and indigenous cuisines from the region. The festival aims to provide a national platform to elevate Northeast India’s cultural and economic significance.
