IMPHAL, Dec 9: Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Monday inaugurated the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) building in Kasom Khullen, Kamjong District, via video conferencing from the Chief Minister’s Secretariat. The inauguration highlights the state government’s commitment to inclusive development and improving the education sector despite financial challenges.
Addressing the event, the Chief Minister emphasized the government’s continuous efforts toward the welfare of the people and the need for inclusive development to strengthen relationships among different communities across the state. He reiterated the government’s initiatives such as the Go to Hills and Go to Villages missions, which aim to bridge developmental gaps and deliver governance to the people’s doorstep.
The newly constructed DIET building, developed at an estimated cost of ₹5.61 crore, is part of the government’s priority to improve the education sector. The Chief Minister mentioned that despite financial constraints, significant strides have been made in educational development. He also praised the STAR Education Programme, which has resulted in noticeable improvements in teaching methods among trained educators.
Highlighting infrastructure improvements, CM Biren noted the significant enhancement in road connectivity from Imphal to Kasom Khullen, reducing travel time from 7-8 hours to just one and a half hours. He emphasized the importance of public support in furthering developmental works across the state.
The Chief Minister assured that health facilities equipped with modern machines would soon be established in various hill districts to address healthcare needs. He also reiterated the government’s commitment to protecting the indigenous population while maintaining a balanced approach to all communities.
While expressing regret for not being able to attend the inauguration in person due to the current law and order situation in the state, CM Biren urged officials to ensure the proper use and maintenance of the DIET building. He pledged to address issues like staff shortages and other facility requirements in DIETs across the state.
Education Minister Th. Basanta Kumar, who also spoke at the event, informed that the establishment of one DIET in every district of Manipur has been approved. Currently, nine DIETs are operational, and four institute buildings have been constructed. The Education Minister commended the Chief Minister for prioritizing education and urged him to address the vacant posts in various DIETs to make them fully functional.
