IMPHAL, Dec 9: The newly established Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) in Manipur has announced plans to hold a rally demanding a separate administration for the Kuki-Zo community. The decision was made during the KZC’s inaugural general body meeting, which was held on Sunday at S. Molnom village in the Kangpokpi district of Manipur.
During the meeting, the KZC passed three key resolutions. The first resolution calls for engagement with the Chief Ministers of all northeastern states, excluding Manipur, to advocate for the grievances and aspirations of the Kuki-Zo community. The second resolution involves organizing a nationwide rally across all Kuki-Zo-dominated districts to push for the community’s demand for a separate administration, specifically for Union Territory status with a legislature. The third resolution strongly condemns the Manipur government’s alleged attempts to reopen strategic routes, such as the Imphal-Kangpokpi-Senapati and Imphal-Bishnupur-Churachandpur routes, without addressing the underlying tensions in the region.
The KZC’s initiative aims to draw the attention of the central government during the ongoing winter session of Parliament to the community’s demand. Additionally, the council announced plans for massive protests in Kuki-Zo-dominated areas to resist these actions by the Manipur government.
The meeting, which was hosted by the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) of Sadar Hills in the Kangpokpi district, marks a significant milestone in the efforts to address the challenges and aspirations of the Kuki-Zo community in Manipur.
