NEW DELHI, Dec 9: More than 40 schools across Delhi received bomb threats on Monday, prompting swift responses from Delhi Police. The threats, sent via email, led to a large-scale security operation, which ultimately declared the threats to be a hoax.
The initial bomb threats were reported by Delhi Public School (DPS) in RK Puram and GD Goenka School in Paschim Vihar. DPS received the threat at 7:06 AM, while GD Goenka was notified at 6:15 AM. The threatening emails contained similar content, claiming that small bombs had been planted inside the school buildings and would detonate if a ransom of $30,000 was not paid. The email also stated that the bombs were “well hidden” and that “many people would be injured” if they exploded, though it claimed the buildings would not suffer significant damage.
In response to the threats, school administrations immediately evacuated students and sent them home. Police, along with bomb detection teams, fire officials, and a dog squad, conducted thorough searches at the affected schools. However, no suspicious items were found. Delhi Police PRO Sanjay Tyagi reassured the public, stating that the department is ensuring the security of all schools and will continue to work towards preventing such incidents in the future.
The police are currently investigating the IP address associated with the emails and working to trace the sender. This bomb threat follows a similar hoax incident a week earlier at Rohini’s Venkateshwar Global School, which also turned out to be a false alarm. Additionally, two months ago, several CRPF schools across Delhi and India had also received bomb threat emails.
This series of hoax bomb threats comes amid growing concerns about security protocols in the capital. In response to these incidents, the Delhi High Court had directed the Aam Aadmi Party-led government and Delhi Police to create a comprehensive action plan, including a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for dealing with bomb threats and emergencies.
