NEW DELHI, Dec 10: The fifth round of political talks between the Zeliangrong Statehood Working Committee and the Government of India took place in New Delhi today, marking a crucial development in addressing the long-standing demands of the Zeliangrong community.

The meeting centered on discussions regarding the Zeliangrong political issues, which have been a subject of ongoing dialogue with the Government of India since the signing of the CoO Agreement. During the talks, both sides shared their perspectives on the matter, deliberating on potential solutions that would be mutually acceptable. The discussions aimed to foster a better understanding and work towards a pragmatic resolution at the earliest.

According to the Zeliangrong United Front’s Secretary, Information & Publicity, the outcome of the discussions was positive, indicating significant progress toward resolving the Zeliangrong People’s Convention (ZPC) political demand. The resolution seeks to address long-standing issues by translating these demands into practical realities through contemporary political exercises based on democratic principles.

It may be noted that Zeliangrong United Front was established in 2011 and is actively operating in Manipur. The ZUF aims to safeguard the interests of Zeliangrong Naga tribes in Manipur, Assam and Nagaland. Its objective is to create a ‘Zeliangrong state’ within the Indian Union, covering the Zeliangrong Naga tribes’ areas in the three northeastern states.

The ZUF signed the ‘Cessation of Operation Agreement’ with the Central Government in December 2022. Under this agreement, the group agreed to give up violence and join the democratic process. This peace agreement provides for the rehabilitation and resettlement of the armed cadres belonging to the ZUF.
