MUMBAI, Dec 13: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) received a bomb threat via email on Friday, written in Russian. The email, which was sent to the official RBI website, warned of explosives planted at the RBI building, threatening to blow it up.
In response to the threat, the Mumbai Police have registered a case against the unknown sender at the Mata Ramabai Marg (MRA Marg) police station. Authorities are actively investigating the matter and are working to trace the source of the email.
This incident follows a similar bomb threat received on November 16, when a caller posing as the “CEO of Lashkar-e-Taiba” threatened the RBI’s customer care number. The individual reportedly sang a song over the phone before issuing the threat. Lashkar-e-Taiba, a terror group responsible for the 2008 Mumbai attacks, was cited in the threat. However, the Mumbai Police responded promptly and conducted a search of the premises, finding nothing suspicious.
The latest threat adds to a series of hoax bomb threats that have emerged across India, particularly targeting schools and airlines. On Friday, six schools in Delhi received bomb threat emails, prompting immediate action from the police. The Delhi Police confirmed that they are following the standard operating procedure (SOP) for handling such threats, which involves thorough inspections of the affected locations.
The bomb threat emails to the schools warned of a potential bomb blast on December 13-14 and demanded a response with specific demands, or face detonation. However, after detailed checks, no explosives were found at any of the schools.
Earlier this month, on December 11, over 40 schools in Delhi were targeted with similar bomb threat emails demanding ransom. While no explosives were discovered, the threats led to widespread panic and disruptions.
