IMPHAL, Dec 14: The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) is set to host the Northeast Trade and Investment Roadshow in Mumbai on December 16, with the goal of attracting investments and unlocking the untapped potential of the region. The event aims to advance the Northeast’s journey toward greater prosperity and development.
The roadshow will be addressed by Union Minister for MDoNER, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, along with Tripura Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma. Officials expect the high-profile event to draw significant attention and participation, further cementing Mumbai’s role as a key financial hub for economic growth in the Northeast.
The momentum for the region’s investment drive has been gaining traction, highlighted by the recent Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav event in New Delhi, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The event secured investment intents worth ₹2,326 crore, signaling a new era of growth for the Northeast.
The Mumbai roadshow will feature presentations from various states, with key insights from Ministers, aimed at highlighting investment opportunities across the eight Northeast states: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura. The sectors being showcased will include agri-food processing and allied sectors, IT & ITES, entertainment & sports, energy, infrastructure & logistics, tourism & hospitality, education & skill development, and healthcare.
A major highlight of the event will be the Business-to-Government (B2G) meetings, offering potential investors a unique opportunity to engage directly with state representatives and explore sector-specific investment opportunities. The event is being organized in collaboration with the state governments of the Northeast, with support from FICCI (Industry Partner) and Invest India (Investment Facilitation Partner).
Key officials attending the event include Shri Chanchal Kumar, Secretary, MDoNER, and Monalisa Dash, Joint Secretary, MDoNER, along with senior representatives from the Northeast states.
The Mumbai event marks the sixth roadshow in an ongoing series, following previous events in major cities like Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Bengaluru, as well as a state seminar at Vibrant Gujarat. The Hyderabad roadshow, attended by MoS for MDoNER Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, facilitated several B2G meetings that fostered potential investments.
Over the past decade, significant efforts have been made to enhance infrastructure development in the Northeast, covering roadways, highways, airways, railways, and waterways. These initiatives have had a transformative impact on the region’s economy, particularly driving growth in tourism and other economic activities.
With a robust lineup of speakers, presentations, and investor engagement opportunities, the Mumbai roadshow aims to position the Northeast as a promising investment destination for both domestic and global investors.
