Utter Pradesh: 3 June 2024
In a rather peculiar incident in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, a man attempting to rob a house was arrested after he fell asleep inside the property. The man, heavily drunk, found an air-conditioned room too comfortable to resist, leading to his unplanned nap.
The event took place in the early hours of Sunday, June 2, in the Indiranagar area. The house, belonging to Dr. Sunil Pandey who works in Varanasi and was away at the time, seemed like an easy target. The thief broke in through the front gate, wandered into the drawing room, and switched on the air conditioner. Feeling the cool air, he laid down on the floor, resting his head on a cushion, and quickly fell asleep.
Neighbors, noticing the open front gate, contacted Dr. Pandey. Since he was not in town, he immediately informed the police. Officers arrived to find the man sleeping peacefully, with the air conditioner running. He was so deep in sleep that he didn’t even wake up when the police arrived. A photo from the scene shows him clutching a mobile phone in one hand.
DCP North Zone R Vijay Shankar confirmed the man’s intent to steal but noted that his heavy intoxication led to his unintended slumber. “He was heavily drunk and fell asleep, unable to wake up. The neighbors reported the situation, leading to his arrest,” Shankar told India Today.
The police have stated that further action will be taken against the man in accordance with the law.
