Imphal:   Unknown armed men attack the residence of Khoirom Loyalakpa, editor of the Manipuri daily “Naharolgi Thoudang” early Tuesday morning. The assailants, arriving in a vehicle, fired six gunshots at the editor’s home in Kontha Khabam Lai Haraobam, Imphal East, before fleeing. The attack occurred around 12:20 am, shortly after the state government had withdrawn Loyalakpa’s security guards on June 5, 2024.

Loyalakpa, who was not at home during the attack, later stated he holds no personal conflicts with anyone and is open to dialogue. The All Manipur Working Journalists Union (AMWJU) and Editors’ Guild, Manipur (EGM) have been notified. No group has claimed responsibility, and the police have initiated a suo-motto case and are investigating the incident.
