TOS: What stands out as the most pivotal moment in your career, and how did it shape your journey?
Swapnanil Talukdar: Winning the IGNITE 14 Award from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam was a defining milestone. That recognition opened my eyes to the often-overlooked world of innovation, where creativity meets commercialization. Working with the National Innovation Foundation provided crucial insights into taking ideas to market, shaping my future in innovation.
TOS: What achievement are you most proud of, and what obstacles did you overcome to reach it?
Swapnanil Talukdar: Meeting Dr. Kalam at IIM Ahmedabad was profoundly moving. Navigating mentorship and resources as a student was challenging, especially with limited access to guidance within my community. Coming from a middle-class family, I had to work doubly hard to find my way, but the journey was worth it.
TOS: How do you maintain motivation despite setbacks?
Swapnanil Talukdar: When you start from scratch, there’s little to lose, so each step forward is meaningful. My guiding principles are vision, strategy, empathy, and creativity; they keep me grounded and forward-thinking, even when faced with uncertainty.
TOS: Could you describe an impactful project you’ve led?
Swapnanil Talukdar: I recently collaborated on a wind energy assessment project in Assam with Kaziranga University, NRL, and IFSA-Bangalore. The project, which identifies locations for windmills along the Brahmaputra, holds potential for sustainable energy in the region. My involvement in NASA’s moonbuggy project also stands out as it pushed boundaries in innovation.

Swapnanil Talukdar: I hope to foster an innovation ecosystem in Northeast India, encouraging calculated risks and promoting creativity over criticism. By nurturing an environment that supports inventive thinkers, we can lay the groundwork for sustained regional development.
