Kohima, Oct 12: The Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) has issued a press release urging the Nagaland Government to submit its comments on the Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT) by October 31. This appeal follows a coordination and consultative meeting held on October 11 in Mon Town, where representatives from various Frontal and Tribal Organisations unanimously agreed to request a timely response from the state government.
Earlier, the ENPO had sent a request letter to the Chief Minister of Nagaland on August 23, 2024, and subsequently issued a reminder on September 14, 2024, asking for comments as anticipated by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India. The ENPO pointed out that on December 18, 2023, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had handed over the “Highlight of the draft Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) with ENPO on FNT” to the state government for prompt feedback. However, progress on this issue has been stalled, which the ENPO believes is due to reasons only the state government knows.
In its statement, the ENPO emphasized the need for the CM of Nagaland to recognize and address the aspirations of the Eastern Nagas. Additionally, the House has resolved to convene a Central Executive Council Meeting (CEC) on November 1, 2024, to deliberate on the next steps regarding this issue.
