SHILLONG, Oct 25: The troops from the 4th Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) in Meghalaya on Friday successfully thwarted a significant smuggling attempt near the international border. Acting on specific intelligence, the BSF intercepted a pick-up vehicle in the East Khasi Hills district that was carrying 12 cartons of ointment cream worth over ₹12 lakhs.

The vehicle, which was found to contain cosmetic items, had no valid documentation. The seizure underscores the ongoing challenges related to smuggling activities along the border. In recent months, the BSF has ramped up its vigilance, successfully targeting various illegal operations. This not only includes the apprehension of contraband but also the detention of individuals involved in smuggling operations, showcasing a proactive approach.

The recent operation in East Khasi Hills is part of a broader strategy by the BSF to curb illegal activities. Notable past successes include the seizure of clothing worth over ₹12 lakhs near the West Garo Hills border and the arrest of a Bangladeshi national linked to sugar smuggling in the district. These incidents reinforce the BSF’s commitment to safeguarding the borders and addressing the challenges posed by cross-border smuggling.
