AIZAWL, Oct 29: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma has officially requested Defense Minister Rajnath Singh to create a dedicated ‘Mizo Territorial Force’ comprised entirely of Mizo youth. This proposal was discussed during a recent meeting between the two leaders, as confirmed by government officials.
The intended Mizo Territorial Force seeks to generate employment opportunities while also enhancing regional security. CM Lalduhoma highlighted that involving Mizo youth in this force could improve regional stability and enable local residents to actively contribute to Mizoram’s defense efforts.
Defense Minister Singh responded positively, assuring the Chief Minister that he would present the proposal to the Centre’s Cabinet Committee on Security for review. The proposed force would mainly consist of young people from Mizoram, providing job opportunities and fostering a sense of duty within the state’s security framework.
This regional force aims to serve as a dependable defense unit, adept at addressing the specific challenges and geographical context of the region, thereby supporting ongoing national security initiatives in Mizoram and adjacent areas. Chief Minister Lalduhoma and his officials are hopeful that the Cabinet Committee on Security will view the proposal favorably, marking a significant step toward empowering Mizoram’s youth through national service.
