SENAPATI, Oct 30: The NSCN-IM reportedly detained a suspected cadre of the Kuki National Front (KNF) for allegedly collecting “illegal tax,” according to a report on Wednesday.
Identified as Lamkholen, also known as Ojit, the 34-year-old from Chalwa village in Kangpokpi district, was reportedly captured by NSCN-IM members Monday night in Mayangkhang village, Senapati district, based on allegations of extortion. Recovered from his possession were incriminating documents and a Maruti Fronx vehicle, allegedly used in the extortion campaigns of the KNF outfit.
Photos on social media show the captured KNF member being paraded with his hands and legs bound. The NSCN-IM, which currently observes a peace agreement with the government.
Notably, the KNF is one of 25 Kuki underground groups that signed a peace pact with the central government, with demands for a sovereign state within Manipur.
