NEW DELHI, Oct 30: In New Delhi, hundreds of students from Northeast India rallied to urge the Central and State Governments to restore peace in Manipur and assist with resettling internally displaced persons (IDPs), emphasizing the ongoing crisis’s impact on Manipur’s youth.
The peaceful demonstration, titled “Save Manipur—No Compromise on Manipur’s Territorial Integrity,” was organized by the Manipur Innovative Youth Organisation (MAIYOND) and United Kakching Students (UNIKAS), with support from the North East Students Society of Delhi University. The gathering voiced a strong call for maintaining Manipur’s territorial and administrative unity.
A student representative expressed deep concern over government inaction that has left over 60,000 IDPs in poor conditions, noting, “Our youth are the foundation of this nation, and their future is being compromised.” Historian and geopolitical analyst Abhijit Chavda urged indigenous communities to unite, stressing that Manipur and India’s interests are aligned against divisive sentiments.
Retired Colonel Kishore Chand affirmed that government agencies are working diligently to address the needs of IDPs and violence victims, expressing optimism for justice. Other notable speakers included retired Colonel Shanti Kumar Sapam, social activists Elizabeth Kh. and Rajshree Kumari, and Delhi University’s Dr. M. Ojit Kumar Singh, who each reiterated the necessity for unity and peace.
MAIYOND and UNIKAS reinforced their belief that any division, whether territorial or ideological, undermines Manipur’s social cohesion.
