NEW DELHI, Nov 5: The Winter Session of Parliament is set to start on November 25 and run through December 20. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju confirmed that President Droupadi Murmu approved the government’s proposal to convene both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha during this period.
A special feature of this session will be the observance of Constitution Day on November 26, commemorating 75 years since the adoption of India’s Constitution. The event, held in the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan in New Delhi, will see members of both Houses honoring this landmark.
Rijiju shared on X, “Hon’ble President, on the recommendation of Government of India, has approved the proposal for summoning of both the Houses of Parliament for the Winter Session, 2024 from 25th November to 20th December, 2024 (subject to exigencies of parliamentary business). On 26th November, 2024 (Constitution Day), 75th Anniversary of the adoption of Constitution, the event would be celebrated in the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan.”
Prominent discussions are expected around the ‘Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024’ and the ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal. Home Minister Amit Shah has underscored the urgency of the Waqf Bill, while a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) is currently consulting stakeholders nationwide.
The government may also introduce the ‘One Nation, One Election’ bill, aiming for simultaneous elections across the country. Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed strong support for the initiative, noting it would streamline electoral processes, conserve resources, and propel India’s development.
